West Kent Sunday League News Report Sunday 28th October 2018

Kent Sunday Premier Cup

Armada fell at the first hurdle after a journey down to Marden to play Marden Minors Sunday FC. They went ahead early in the game with a goal by Ben Renshaw but then missed a penalty. Marden worked their way back into the game with three unanswered goals, while Armada missed several more chances. Final score 3-1 to Marden.

WKSFL Senior Cup

There were two more games in the group stage, in which wins for Artois United and Paddock Wood added up to a four way tie at the top of the table. Artois travelled to Green Lane, where the hosts might have hoped for a better result that the 6-0 defeat they suffered. Now the League's top goalscorer, Stefan Draper hit four of the six to take his season total thus far to 19. Lucas Murrain scored the other two. In goal, Dave Holdstock kept his second clean sheet of the season.

Paddock Wood put aside some fairly poor form to beat Division Two side Brenchley 5-1 away from home. Alex Chaplin and Lamin Fuller both scored twice, Mason Tucker the fifth. I do not have the Brenchley scorer.

In Group 2, Pembury Sunday made it two wins out of two and into second place, but there is a long way to go in this section. A 3-0 home win against Division Two side Cassidy's Phoenix featured two goals from Robbie Bisset and one from Yacine Marouani. Jack Greener kept his goal intact.

WKSFL Intermediate Cup

There were three ties in the WKSFL Intermediate Cup. Two went to form, with Division Two sides beating visiting Division Three opposition. Despite Harvey Parks scoring yet again for Goudhurst United, two this time, he and his team were outclassed by Rich Wetton who scored four for Dormansland Rockets, his second hat-trick in two games. Also scoring for the Rockets were Ali Jones and an un-named Goudhurst player into his own net

St John's Yard put on a superb performance to overcome Division Three leaders Ticehurst Village at the Hilbert.  They  went 1-0 up from Lewis Stack in twenty minutes and it stayed1-0 at half time. The visitors started the second half well, with Leon Fisher scoring twice early on to give them the lead.

With five minutes to go and Ticehurst doing a lot of defending, Josh Williams managed to squeeze one in a very tight angle to level the scores, then added another in the next minute to give the Yard a 3-2 lead. Ticehurst finally cracked with James Humphrey completing the scoring and the Yard finishing 4-2 winners.

Having beaten Yalding & Laddingford in the League a couple of weeks ago, Tonbridge Origin were probably expecting to win this all Division Three tie and so they did. The outcome at Tonbridge Farm was a 4-1 win for Origin with four different names on the scoresheet - Craig Waller, Chris Gregory, Dean Larter and the prolific Ben Holder. Jacob Lambert hit a consolation effort for the visitors.

Division One

With most teams busy in various Cups, there was only one game which saw Green Street Blues record their first win since the opening day of the season. Visitors Royal Oak were on the receiving end, but gave good account of themselves in what ended as a 5-3 win for the Blues.  Shaun Boyle scored twice for the Blues and there was one each for Mike Grimes, Mike Powell and Yannick Tchoundjin. Oaks's scorers were Tommy Gray, Luke Graham and Harry Phipps.

Division Two

The only game scheduled, between Petts Wood Old Boys and Insulators, was postponed.

Division Three

With leaders Ticehurst Village engaged in the Intermediate Cup, FC Grinstead and TW Ridgewaye both took the opportunity to play catch-up with useful wins. FC Grinstead are still at 100% in terms of league results, the latest being a 3-1 win at Tonbridge United.  Leading scorer for United Reece Dangerfield hit his seventh of the season. United have still to win in any competition this season. FC Grinstead scorers were Josh Dove, Joe Moulding and Ben Whiteman.

TW Ridgewaye went to Insulators Reserves, returning with a 5-2 win under their belts, their third in a row. Two goals from Adam Davies-Knight did the damage, helped by single goals from Dan Thomas, Dave Pringeur and Ted Thomson.

The away side started this game well and dominated the early stages. It was virtually game over with three goals coming from
shots from inside the penalty area between 13th and 22nd minutes. Insulators were restricted to the occasional break away, before Ridgeway added a fourth from outside the box to make it 0-4 at half time.

A cricket score looked on the cards when a neat lob made it 0-5 on the hour mark but Insulators improved considerably and a minute later Jake Pingault, normally a first team player, made it 1-5 with a fine shot to the top left corner. Shortly afterwards the same player made it 2-5 with an even better effort in the same place. Despite chances at both ends it remained 2-5. Despite the deserved win for Ridgewaye, it was encouraging for the reserves to keep trying and come out of the game with some credit.
