West Kent Sunday League News Report Sunday 9th December 2018

Well not much to write about this week. Heavy rain put paid to all but one of the morning's scheduled fixtures. The only game to take place was the Division Two clash between Speldhurst Rangers and Petts Wood OId Boys.

Division Two

Petts Wood Old Boys managed to win 4-3 away at Speldhurst Rangers in tough weather conditions and in which the pitch played a part. This was only Petts Wood's third league match and they recorded their first win. Both teams had performed well against Division One opposition in the Senior Cup the previous week.

Petts Wood played good football in spells and could have won by a considerable margin, but Speldhurst made the game difficult. Two goals from Billy Parkinson for the visitors, one each from Ollie Crees and Josh Fermor made it 2-2 at half time. Petts Wood kicked on after the break and managed to pile the pressure on Speldhurst.  Goalkeeper Liam Baldwin made a considerable number of good saves, but eventually Billy Parkinson managed to secure his hattrick (his second of the season) to make it 3-2 to Petts Wood. Ten minutes before the end Jake Oke was on hand to widen the margin to 4-2 with a simple finish.

Speldhurst managed to break away and counter-attack from a corner at the other end of the pitch, for Josh Fermor to score two minutes from the end. That gave Petts Wood a nervy finish, but they managed to hold on and see out the 4-3 victory.
