West Kent Sunday League News Report Sunday 7th October 2018

The Senior Cup took centre stage last Sunday and there were some interesting results. In the League, Division Three results also make for interesting reading.

WKSFL Senior Cup

Group 1

Petts Wood Old Boys are getting their season under way with two wins in two weeks. The latest came at Brenchley, who have yet to win in League or Cup this season. It was a close thing though at the Brenchley Memorial Ground. Petts Wood won 3-2, goals coming from Josh Southam, Jake Oke and Joe Birch. The hosts had Olly Platt and Mike Williams on the scoresheet.

Artois United went to Goldsmith's and demolished Crowborough Town 13-0. A long list of goalscorers was headed by Stefan Draper with five, Reagan Cork with four, two from George Rogers and one each from Jack Funnell and James Donaldson. Dave Holdstock kept the clean sheet in goal.

Paddock Wood recorded their first win of the season with a 5-2 victory over Dormansland Rockets at the Elm Tree. A hat-trick from John Bilsby and a brace from Joe Walters could only be answered by a penalty scored by Ross Waghorn and a goal from Aidan Bramall.

Royal Oak are enduring a tough start to the season and this continued with a 6-2 defeat at the hands of Cassidy's Phoenix. Ben Boodle scored a hat-trick, also scoring were Josh Ennis, Ollie Muggeridge and Andy Todd. Dan Lazell scored both for the Oak.

Division One

There was just the one game in Division One, in which Simla beat Green Street Blues 6-1 to go clear at the top of the table. It was a good start for Simla, with Alex Carey scoring within two minutes. Simla soon took control with a further three goals in the first half. One each for Harry Bamblett, Joe Fuller and Myles Lowden.

Green Street Blues started well in the second half quickly pulling one goal back, credited as an own goal. The Blues tried hard to get further goals without success, but it was Simla  who had most of the possession and attacking moves with substitute Steve Smith scoring a further two goals to round off the scoring.

Division Two

There were no games scheduled in Division Two.

Division Three

The unfortunate demise of FC Hayward resulted in the table being adjusted. That and the results from Sunday mean that just one point separates the top six teams.

TW Ridgewaye leaped to the top of the table after bringing Goudhurst United's three game winning streak to an abrupt halt.

Ridgewaye were short of a few regulars on Sunday, including top scorer Dan Thomas.  They used a new formation to try to take advantage of the players they had.  Two uncharacteristic howlers in the first twelve minutes led to two opportunistic goals nicely taken by Harvey Parks.  Ridgewaye regrouped and played more defensively for 15 minutes, and then Adam Davies-Knight scored with a fine shot from wide on the left.  Ridgewaye changed formation after that goal and got the equaliser from Ben Adams just before half time.  In the fifteen minutes after half time,  Adams completed his hat-trick and Davies-Knight got a second.  Ridgewaye relaxed slightly, but Goudhurst have too many good players to take lightly, they came back into the game and Parks scored his hat-trick goal.   It was his fourth hat-trick of the season. The last quarter was more scrappy, without much of the flowing football that had been the case earlier.   It was evident why both teams were around the top of the division, both try to play football and there were very few fouls.

Our man on the sidelines called it a  terrific performance from both teams and a pleasure to watch. Well done to everyone involved.

Ticehurst Village go second after a goalkeeper's nightmare of a game with Tonbridge United. Thirteen goals were scored, eight of them by the Village. Two hat-tricks were included, by Jason Marsh and Zack McEniry and there was one each from Leon Fisher and Joe Drury. United's list of scorers also had a hat-trick, scored by Reece Dangerfield. Mattnew Anderson and Steve Causon scored the others.

Biggin Hill picked up their first point of the League season, a creditable 2-2 draw at Tonbridge Origin. Sam Lambert and Scott Glastin were the scorers.

Finally, Yalding & Laddingford suffered their first loss of the season, going down 4-1 at home to FC Grinstead for whom Micky Neatherway scored all four. Billy Dunn scored Yalding's single goal. It later emerged that FC Grinstead had played the whole game with only nine men!
