West Kent Sunday League News Report – Sunday 5th May 2019

There were only three games played, OK four if you count the double header as two. However the Management Committee has had some decisions to make concerning unplayed games in Division One.

Division One

The only scheduled game, Armada v Pembury Sunday was postponed until next Sunday.  The league table below reflects the decisions made by the Management Committee in respect of two matches not played. Back on 7th April the game between Armada and Green Street Blues was abandoned following a serious injury. Green Street Blues are unable to fulfil a re-arranged fixture, therefore the points have been awarded to Armada. The game between Royal Oak and Green Lane will not be played. The points have been awarded to Green Lane which means they finish in the runners-up spot.

Division Two

The double header between Dormansland Rockets and St John's Yard ended in disappointment for the Yard. Their last chance of honours was lost as they drew the first leg 0-0 and lost the second 2-1. Petts Wood Boys scheduled opponents Crowborough Town did not fulfil the fixture, thus the Old Boys have three points awarded. and are guaranteed at least second place.

The title can still go to either Insulators or Petts Wood, who were scheduled to meet next Sunday. Should Insulators win or it's a draw, the trophy will be theirs. Should it be a win for Petts Wood, they would then have to gain four points from their double header with Dormansland Rockets on May 19th, while keeping an eye on goal difference!

At Dormansland the first game of the double header was that rarest of events, a 0 - 0 draw. The two goalkeepers thus noted were Louis Stone of the Rockets and Mike Dimiris of St John's Yard. The second game went 2-1 the way of the Rockets, with Alfie Brown scoring twice. Jack Veness scored for the Yard.

Rockets must now turn their attention to Friday night's Surrey Sunday Lower Junior Final at Dorking where they will meet Atletico Bublé of the Southern Sunday League. Atletico play in the fourth tier of that league and, like Dormansland, are way behind with their league fixtures because of the cup run. They are currently ninth of eleven teams, with 21 points from 16 matches.

In the day's other game, Insulators put one hand on the Division Two Trophy with a good 5-3 win at home against Cassidy's Phoenix.

It was a  game that Insulators had to win to maintain the challenge for the title but, against dangerous opposition, looked like losing until the final few minutes.

The home side took the lead fairly early through top scorer Jake Pingault, but mid way through the half Cassidys equalised through Alex Cooper. The second half looked like Insulators had blown their chances as the away side scored a soft goal to go 2-1 ahead, the league's leading scorer Ben Boodle getting that one and then added another from a corner converted by Lynos Rwodzi.  No scoring followed and the second half was now into the final twenty minutes. Despite Insulators pressing a goal wouldn't come. Just when it was needed, Tommy Bridger pulled one back after a great pass by Glen Gostlow and then Callum Lawlor rounded the 'keeper to bring the scores level at 3-3 with ´ten minutes remaining.

It then took a screamer from Martin Page-Mitchell to put Insulators in front in the 83rd minute. Jake Pingault scored his second to make the game safe in the 89th minute.

Division Three

The final Division Three game of the season was at the Kinton's, where Junior Cup Finalists Yalding & Laddingford hosted TW Ridgewaye. Ridgewaye have been playing well towards the end of the season, with six wins and one defeat in their previous seven games. They added a good 5-0 win to round off the season. Their leading scorer Adam Davies-Knight scored two of them, with Harry Garside, Ben Adams and Johnny Hughes also scoring. Ash Cook in goal kept his second clean sheet of the season.

Next Sunday morning Yalding and Laddingford will meet Goudhurst United in the WKSFL Junior Cup Final.
