West Kent Sunday League News Report – Sunday 27th March 2022

The final few weeks of the season draw near with issues still far from decided in all three divisions. The race for the Top goalscorers trophies is also cloe. There are four playes across the Divisions with the same total, 32. Namely Bal Maher and Luke Leppard of Simla, Ollie Sugden of Artois United Reserves and Oscar Harrison of AFC Borough Reserves. Maher did score the majority of his goals for Green Lane, earlier in the season.

Division One

Artois United did the double over Simla at Five Oak Green (they won the first phase fixture 4-0) and threw the title race wide open.  Two goals from Dan Ashton and one from captain Nathan Moseley did the job. Veteran Joe Fuller scored Simla's only goal in the second half after his side had gone into the half time break one down. Next Sunday will see Pembury Sunday host Artois United in a vital game.

For their part, Pembury Sunday were tested at Charcott but finished 4-2 winners, thanks to a double strike from Adam Davies-Knight and further goals from Scott Moran and leading scorer Tom Price.

Division One teams play a total of 18 games this season across the two phases.

Division Two

AFC Borough are hot favourites for the trophy, despite being held to a 3-3 draw by Dormansland Rockets.  It's now nine games since their last league defeat way back in late November. Benji Simmonds, Jacob Feasey and the reserves leading scorer Oscar Harrison hit their three goals. Rockets scorers were  Ashley Hollom, Rich Wetton, Ali Jones.

With four games remaining, Dormansland do have an outside shot at a top two place, but their exploits in the Surrey Cup have left them well behind with their fixtures.

Odukwe have a game in hand and still have a mathematical chance of silverware.  They did their cause no harm with a 4-0 win at Insulators. Unfortunately, I have no details of the game other than the score. Division Two teams will also play a total of 18 games.

Division Three

Sedlescombe Rangers now have a clear ahead of their two closest rivals, both of whom lost on Sunday. Sedlescombe were tested by lowlyTonbridge United, but eventually triumphed 3- 0 with the goals coming from top scorer Alvin Scott, Harry Loates and Tom Swatton.

Insulators Reserves took a step back, losing 3-1 at TW Ridgewaye Reserves, who made it seven wins on the trot. Too late for a title challenge, but good form nevertheless. Tyler Markwell, Dan Thomas and Nathan Cook scored.

Brenchley have won only one of their last six league games and may have lost the chance of a top two finish.  Ticehurst Village haven't been in top form recently but were good winners on the day. Their 3-1 win featured goals by Shane Bumstead, Ben Evans and Mat Sanders. Conor Williams replied for Brenchley.

Royal Oak will make a late challenge for honours, now that their run in the Kent Sunday Junior Cup is at an end.  They do have a lot of games to play, I can see double headers looming!  They set off on the right foot with a 4-0 win at home to Dunton Green, scoring through Frankie  Fuller, Luke Graham, Josh Harris and Matt Last. Goalie Sam Catt kept his sixth clean sheet of the WKSFL season.

Speldhurst Rangers beat Riverside Colts 4-1, their third successful game since a dismal run of defeats was ended. Speldhurst took the lead from an Ollie Crees throw in where Stuart Morgan on his debut for the Rangers leapt like a salmon in the box to steer his header into the top right corner. Speldhurst doubled their lead with a penalty from James Hughes, who scuffed it under the Riverside keeper.

Riverside scored in the second half, scorer unknown from sliced shot. Rangers appealed for offside, but had no linesman because he was now reffing the match. Speldhurst weathered the storm and with ten minutes to go, Dan Sabin crossed the ball to Liam Legge/Beale who took a touch and smashed in a half volley across the -keeper into the top corner. Hughes then got a second goal after a mazy run from Harry Bourne ,who was then poised to shoot, but Hughes stole it off him.

AFC Borough Reserves, hit by injuries and unavailability, were unable to put out a team for their match against Artois United Reserves. The Management Committee will decide upon the award of points etc at its meeting next Monday.

The game between Westerham and AFC Tonbridge was called off following a bereavement directly affecting their playing squad.  Our condolences go to all concerned.
