West Kent Sunday League News Report – Sunday 6th March 2022

Updated 8th March.

Despite wet weather, we lost only a couple of games. The first games in the Junior Cup were played, the Senior Cup group stage is almost ended. There may be some adjustments to tables following Monday night's Management Committee meeting. This page and others will be updated during Tuesday afternoon as required.

WKSFL Senior Cup First Round

Odukwe put aside three successive defeats to beat TW Ridgewaye 5-1 and go to the top of the Group 1 table on goal difference. They still have to play Artois United. Scorers in Sunday's win were James Smith, Finn Wells, two from Cameron Wenham and David Crouch also found the back of the net.

In Group 2, Simla sealed their place in the next round with a 5-0 win at Goudhurst United. Bal Maher, who has joined Simla following the unfortunate demise of Green Lane FC, marked his debut with a hat-trick. Also scoring were Luke Leppard and Luke Stratford. In goal, Joe Cullipp kept his eight clean sheet of the season so far. The final game in this group, yet to be scheduled, will determine whether Goudhurst United or Paddock Wood will join them among the automatic places. The top two in each group will go through, plus the two best third placed teams.

In group 3, AFC Borough were unable to field a team against Dormansland Rockets. If Rockets are awarded the points, the match on 20th March between them and Pembury Sunday will decide who goes through as group winners.

WKSFL Junior Cup First Round

Four ties were played and all went with form, with plenty of goals being scored. There was a hat-trick scored in every game.

Artois United Reserves, who have lost only once since the end of October, were too strong for AFC Tonbridge, ending the game 7-1 winners. Division Three's leading scorer Ollie Sugden added four to his tally. He now has 32 goals for the season.  Also scoring were Alex Bridges,Rhys Newton and Adam Hardy. Alex Wooster scored AFC Tonbridge's goal.

AFC Borough Reserves 12-1 win at Riverside Colts featured two hat-tricks. One was hit by Oscar Harrison, who has 30 goals for the season and the other by Nick Jones. Freddie Simmons and Chris Hutchins both scored twice. There was one goal apiece for Andy Harris and Benji Simmons.

Speldhurst Rangers' miserable run continued. They were unceremoniously ejected by Sedlescombe Rangers, whose top scorer Alvin Scott also notched a hat-trick. Bradley Pritchard scored two, High Jones once and there was also an own goal.

TW Ridgewaye Reserves made it six wins on the trot against a Brenchley side who have suddenly lost form.  Ridgewaye's Dan Thomas scored a hat-trick in their 5-0 win, also scoring were Callum Seal and Eden Northcote.

The match between Insulators Reserves and Westerham fell victim to a waterlogged Memorial Field.

Division One

After the split, seven teams will be contesting the title. Points and goals from all phase one games are carried through into this phase two. Each team will play the others once.

Only one game was scheduled on Sunday, between Charcott and Paddock Wood. Charcott came off 3-1 winners thanks to yet another hat-trick, by Jay Pring. Wood's leading scorer Simon Hammond replied.
